I started this year with some of the million picture sorts already on the Internet, but I wanted to increase the DOK for my students, so I asked them to write the word for each picture. Most of my students glued the pictures practically on top of each other, and then came to ask me where the words were supposed to go, so I decided to try something different. I thought it would be pretty easy to create a template with boxes and primary lines to help them write the words. Two hours later, I finally got all of the little boxes to stop moving around on my masterpiece. It still has a blank page attached to the document, but I don't want to mess up all of my hard work in the process of getting rid of it, so let's just agree to pretend that's not there.
I have used this template every week since I created it, and it is 100% worth every moment I spent on it. The pictures live in separate documents, so they are pretty easy to swap out every week. Here are all of the sets I have created so far, plus a blank template to make your own:
Several of the sets have pictures that are specific to my class (they love sorting my dog Sam into the short a category), and there are a few pictures that weren't as recognizable as I had hoped, but this resource has been such a great tool for my class, I want you to be able to use it right now too! I want you to be able to make my resources even better, so I made them as easy to modify as possible. To modify any of the picture sets, simply make a copy of the document and switch the pictures I chose out for ones you prefer.
